Team Chaos - Season Hanging in the Balance

Last night the Chaos faced the unknown as they took on Ben Franklin Elec. for the first time in team history. Advance scouts had been watching the Franklins all season, but scouting reports can only tell so much. The only way to truly take the measure of another team is to face them on the field.
Another ongoing challenge stood before the Chaos, as well - injuries. Several key players were on the injury report, including shortstop Bret McInnis and second baseman Chris Cantzler. With several other key players also missing in action, the team had to scramble to put together a lineup.
Despite the somewhat makeshift Chaos roster, the teams appeared evenly matched as the game went on. The Chaos took an early lead and the teams traded runs and lead changes throughout the first few innings. Finally, the Franklins were able to scratch out 3 runs in the bottom of the 6th to take an 8-5 lead. While the Chaos put up a valiant effort, they could only put one run on the board in the top of the 7th. As time ran out, the Franklins held on for an 8-6 victory.
Following the game, the league made a stunning announcement. Beginning the day after next week's games the fields will be needed by the Westminster Pee-Wee Softball Association for their annual tournament. Due to this scheduling conflict, the playoffs have been canceled.
"We're obviously disappointed that we won't have a chance to take on our arch-rivals (the Misfits) in a postseason championship game," said a clearly shocked manager Kacy Manning. "But, this is a league decision and we'll just have to focus on taking out our frustrations on the playing field."
Suddenly, next week's rematch against the Franklins takes on even more importance, as it will be a winner-take-all battle for second place in the final standings. Team Chaos anticipates having a full roster next week, with injured and generally unavailable players putting in herculean efforts to play in what has become the season's most important game
"I have been following a rigorous treatment schedule prescribed by our team doctor," said the injured Cantzler. "I rub some dirt on my knee twice a day and I can really see the effects. So, I expect to be ready to go next week."
"8:15 pm is kind of late for a game. It means I might have to have dinner earlier than normal and I will have to record my favorite TV show, rather than watching it live," said Bret McInnis. "But, sometimes you just have to make big sacrifices for the team - so, I plan to be there next week."
Fan support will also be a key to next week's game, as the team expects a capacity crowd in the stands. "Every fan will receive a giant foam hand with two fingers raised and the slogan - We're Number 2!" said co-manager Jaclyn Charles.
